News Announcements
We are working on some very cool feature updates. Some of you have been asking for “auto picture re-sizing” so we are adding it as a free update very soon (in a couple of weeks). Also in a couple of months we will be adding to the Pro version a “put pictures in the Heading Item text window”. It will be a selection you make if you select pictures in the text then all pictures will be in the body of the system section at the Heading Items of your choice. You can pick from a few different picture sizes allowed (one or two per heading) etc., and yes in the first release they will all be the same size throughout. Of course this will be another free upgrade. We will continue to improve both the CS and Pro versions by adding new features and refining existing ones.
Computer Network Services
As you know we run a computer network support business in Jensen Beach Florida, with over 19 years in business network installation and support. We are a Certified Microsoft Partner as well as an Intel Partner. My technicians all are highly certified for all Microsoft operating systems for desktops, laptops and servers.
We have built as much protection into the software as possible, but we can’t make the software backup to an external device such as a flash drive, CDROM or USB hard drive. All we can do is recommend and give you as easy a way to do it as we can, see the new “Backup All” and “Restore All” features in the newer upgrades (version 32 on).
Something is Bugging You…
Make sure you keep a good brand name anti-virus on all of your computers and let them update the virus definition files several times a day. Do a deep scan every few days or at least once a week. Check out the Sunbelt software’s New! Vipre product - Unlimited Home Site License at http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/Home-Home-Office/VIPRE/ it allows up to ten licenses per household for $49 bucks, we think it is one of the best virus and spyware protection around. Of course Symantec, McAfee, and Trend Micro all have good products too. Just make sure you have one and it is NOT expired. Typically they expire every year, but some trial versions that come on new computers only last 30 days or so. Make sure yours is valid and working and it should protect against spyware as well. Vipre comes with a very strong spyware component built into the product, so you kind of get a two for one deal with it. Google it and check the reviews.
Shocking Experience:
In Florida (the lighting capital of the world) we advise out corporate clients to have a very good surge suppressor as well as a battery backup. I think I will go way out and recommend that to all of the states as well. We like the APC products. We have tested them and have seen them perform up to their claimed cifications. The best news is the Pro7 Surge Arrest has seven plug receptacles and it only lets through 80 volts after clamping a surge. Jules ratings don’t mean much, advertising hype. The only UL standard for actual surge suppression is UL 1449 and it lets up to 300 volts through, but at least it does stop major surges and will protect your equipment from major over current events, like lighting or a transformer blowing up outside your office.
The other thing that we like about this product (as a stand alone surge product) is that there are indicator lights for wiring faults, and a green light indicates it is still protecting for surges. These devices wear out, surge after surge, and will diminish its capacity to protect, so you must be able to tell when it is not working. Most any battery backup will work, but we like the APC brand. Yes, they do have some built in surge protection, but it is not good enough because there is no indicator for the surge capacity. They do not have as much protection as the Pro 7, but they do at least meet the UL 1449 standard. You should be able to buy both of these for under a hundred bucks and they should last at least three years. Pro7 Surge Arrest and Back UPS ES 550 are the models we recommend. There are plenty others with higher ratings and these are what we use for most of our clients desktop protection and of course when I say desktop that also includes laptops.

Man Overboard… Save Your Self First
One more thing to harp on…BACKUP YOUR DATA. There are several good products out there for this task, but the easiest and quickest ones will be the only ones that you will use. So let’s look at what you could use. We don’t have any add on program suggestions for backup, but we do suggest that you use the “Send To” command, or the copy and paste commands, to copy, paste or send to a USB flash drive or USB hard drive as often as possible. Copy and paste or send to at least the whole “My Documents” (or in Vista) the “Documents” folder to a flash drive or other external device. Note: if you are using a flash drive, alternate between two of them. They are not a real dependable archive device. You can protect them and your data from needless failure, if you properly eject them before removing from the USB port. Oh yeah, I know you have been jerking them out of the port for a long time and it hasn’t failed. Yet! To remove it properly, move your cursor over the little icons in the lower right corner of your computer desktop (screen) and you will see a little green arrow. As you move your cursor over… it will show that you can “safely remove” the drive. Click this and a window will come up. Click “Stop” for the device that is your flash drive, and it should indicate that it is safe to remove. If it says that you can’t remove it now, because it is in use, then close all the windows that would be associated with the flash drive. Like the documents folder or Explorer, or even maybe Force5, then try it again. Soon you will be a pro and it’s worth it to protect your data.
